RAIN DELAYS US OPEN POLO CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINALS
WELLINGTON—The polo fields at International Polo Club Palm Beach have taken on close to three inches of rain in the last 24 hours and the polo safety committee has postponed the US Open Semi-Final games scheduled for Wednesday, April 22 to Thursday, April 23.
“We are always conscious of the safety and health of the horses and players and determined the playing conditions would not be the best tomorrow,” said Jimmy Newman, Polo Director.
The Orchard Hill versus Las Monjitas Game will be played at 1 PM Thursday, April 23 and the Audi versus White Birch Game will be on the International Field and Stadium at 5 PM followed by a brief memorial to the Lechuza horses that died suddenly last Sunday.
Unfortunately, last Sunday, 21 horses on the Lechuza Caracas team collapsed and died prior to the start of their scheduled tournament game. Club President of Operations John Wash said, “We continue to be saddened by this loss and the club is anxiously awaiting the results of the testing.” Wash added, “ If it is determined that changes need to be made the club will continue its commitment to champion these efforts.”
