Fresh faces and teams are playing in San Diego Polo Club’s 6 & 12 goal tournaments now through October 4th.
The 10-12 goal tournament on Sunday featured Hanalei Bay’s team of Nick Morrison (1), Jason Crowder (5), Mariano Fassetta (6), and Ron Bonaguidi (0) vs. Ohana’s team of Kelly Maloney (0), Graham Bray (5), Danny Juarez (4), and Juan Jose Gonzales (2).
Hanalei Bay led the game all the way to win 11 to 7 over Ohana. It opened with Hanalei Bay’s Mariano Fassetta being the first to score. He had two in the period, while Crowder and Bonaguidi each had one of their own. Ohana started with one goal as handicap equalizer but couldn’t strike any through the goal posts.
In the second chukker the play switched. It was Hanalei Bay scoring zip, while Ohana’s Bray and Juarez had a goal each. Ohana still trailed Hanalei Bay 4 to 3.
Fassetta scored two back to back in the third period pushing Hanalei Bay further ahead 6 to 3 at halftime.
In the fourth chukker, penalties dominated. Fassetta put two up on the scoreboard. One was a 60 yard penalty shot. Meantime Ohana still couldn’t convert. Hanalei Bay held the lead 8 to 3.
Ohana fired up in the fifth chukker and scored for the first time in two periods. Gonzalez, Bray, and Juarez had one each. Hanalei Bay’s Bonaguidi had two of his own, pushing his team further ahead 9 to 6.
The final period saw Gonzalez score one for Ohana. Fassetta had two more, bringing his game total to eight goals, ending it Hanalei Bay on top with 11 vs. Ohana 7.
Earlier in the day, the 4 – 6 goal game went into overtime. CasaBlanca teammates were Ronai White (-1), Ashton Wolf (2), Reggie White (0), and Carlos Galindo (4) vs. Southwind/Hanalei Bay’s team of Christopher Collins (2), Chris Collins (1), Krista Bonaguidi (-1) and Juan Curbelo (4). It was tied 8 all at the end of the 4th chukker.
In overtime, it looked to be a quick win for CasaBlanca went they carried the ball from throw-in to goal, but Southwind/Hanalei Bay’s Curbelo made a huge defending play and saved it and reversed the play in the opposite direction back towards his end zone. Their move was stopped short when CasaBlanca’s Galindo turned it and rode a flat out run, back to his goal with two huge lofting shots and a sweet cut in to win it for CasaBlanca 9 to 8 over Southwind/Hanalei Bay.
