The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder
I said California is back and it is! Santa Barbara is leading the charge and Indio is already rockin’. The crowds in Indio and the Polo teams there are the best in a decade and it’s all about polo. Empire, already the nicest looking polo club in the World, is smashing all attendance records. As expected Big Al is the leader of show biz in polo and the Senior producer of it and Jr well he is very close to the leaf that fell. El Dorado with a new owner, credit card and a management team for Polo is moving at express speed to return and are getting it done with Graham Bray at the helm.
Santa Barbara is already double last year with entries, a New President, a wide-open Phil Heatley doing what he does best, put it together and they are coming West. Ryan Gilbertson and Wildcat Polo from Minnesota, Phil Mactaggrat and his Hawk Hill Team out of New York are on their way. Rumor is that Scott Devon and Catamount maybe right behind them, so bring it on. It is showtime! Nobody will be unhappy now that’s are new motto … BE HAPPY.
The 12-goal has 6 teams for sure and should be easily 8 soon with

The High Goal is looking very good. Jumping from 4 teams lately and a herd coming this year to enjoy the best weather in the World in July and August. You always know you play at least two tournament games a week and no rain … who can beat that?

It is happening San Diego, Temecula and Petaluma are all getting tons of action for this year: JUST DO IT it will be the best Polo in so Long.
Other news around SB Polo may also have a new fan as Engel and Voelkers, the Huge Realty Co. very involved in Polo are opening up offices in the area. They are part of Polo around the globe, so if looking for Luxury you know where to go and anything close to the horses they can do that too. Fine things and the class to match it.
At the fields down South it was Ben Solemani and Restoration Hardware taking the Gold Cup In Buenos Aires and local Santi Torres capturing all in Spain like the Triple Crown with Valiente. Former Desert Rat Fred Mannix 2 is off to a good start with Audi in IPC and Remy Muller is also flying-high as he captures his second win in the Joe Barry.
In the Desert first finals it was John Rooney’s Northern Blizzard freezing out the Antelope with a new Gun, Herndon Radcliff out of Alabama with Joe Henderson and Jason Crowder making it happen. Polo is on everywhere it does not freeze across the USA.
