Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the first UAE Ladies Polo Tournament was hosted at the weekend by Ralph Lauren in conjunction with Dubai Cares, at Desert Palm in Dubai.
The ladies-only tournament was led by Olympian HH Sheikha Maitha, the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and who also captained Team UAE at the event.
The remaining three teams, Team Asia and two teams for Europe, consisted of some of the highest ranked female polo players across the globe. Team Asia was captained by Ploy Bhinsaeng, Thailand’s premier female polo player and Lady Polo Asia Ambassador.
Team Europe 1 was captained by Princess Anna Oettingen-Wallerstein from Germany, founder of the Girls Only tournament; and Team Europe 2 was captained by Katerina Zeka Dombiova, one of the brightest female polo players from the Czech Republic.
The USA’s best ranking female polo player, Sunny Hale made a special guest appearance competing alongside Ploy for Team Asia, with Christine Thome, from France, playing for Team Europe 1.
