Hello Everyone,
Although we’ve had a cold and rainy winter, it’s that time of the year to
start thinking about those warm polo months ahead. This year marks the 22nd
season of the San Diego Polo Club, and we invite you to come to where the
“turf meets the surf” and to another great season in beautiful San Diego.
We have some exciting new things in store for you this year—including a
longer playing season (which means more polo!), and the addition of the
Triple Crown of Polo 16-Goal Tournament in September. The barns will open
March 15th with stick and ball commencing March 29th. We then go into two
4-6 goal league tournaments for five weeks in April and May (weather
permitting.) We will close the fields for a 2 week break until June 3rd. Our
first arena tournament will be on Memorial Day weekend, and we encourage all
players to join us as we kick off the summer arena tournaments.
The summer season commences June 4th when we raise the levels to 0-4 goal
and 8-10 goal. We begin with the Chris Hoyman Cup June 4-15, followed by
the very popular Gutierrez Cup June 19-29. The first half of the summer
season ends with the prestigious USPA Rossmore Open tournament from July
3-20th. Our mid-season break, from July 21st to August 7th, will allow our
members to schedule vacations mid-summer without interrupting their polo
season and also give the fields time to rest before starting our two
prestigious tournaments—first the Spreckels Cup 4-6 goal in August, and the
inauguration of the 14-16 goal Triple Crown of Polo Tournament in September.
We conclude the polo season with the annual Women’s Tournament October 4th
and 5th, and 5 weeks of 4-6 goal league play from October 1st to November
2nd.
As you will see from the enclosed materials, the club offers membership
levels that appeal to any player whether you want to play in the arena, are
ready to take your first gallop down a grass field, or are looking to put in
your own team for the 16 goal. Don’t forget to take advantage of our early
discount on your fees if they are paid on or before February 28th. Due to
the cost of living increases, we have had to raise our fees slightly for the
first time in 3 years. But remember, you’re getting polo from April to
November with an average stall rate of around $200 per month.
The club also offers an array of sponsorship and advertising opportunities
such as a tournament or weekend match sponsorship (which includes a table
for 8 and a corporate banner), and additional advertising such as a
billboard, sideboard, or advertisement in the club program. If you or your
company is interested in sponsoring an event or advertising in our program
this year, please give us a call to discuss the many sponsorship
opportunities available. We will be happy to work with you to tailor our
program to fit your personal and corporate needs.
If you are thinking of visiting San Diego from out of town this year and
want to play some polo during your visit, let us put together a visiting
player package that includes tournament participation, a Sunday table, and
tickets to the Del Mar Race Track, or Sea World for the kids. The club has
close ties with the best resorts in San Diego such as Rancho Valencia Resort
or La Valencia Hotel, and can arrange accommodations for you and your
family. Our USPA open tournaments in July, August, and September offer a
fantastic opportunity to experience great polo, perfect weather, and a
chance to partake in the many family (and grown-up) attractions in San

We have a packed social calendar this year with great parties (including the
Triple Crown Gala and the Halloween Bash) and other exciting activities.
Whatever your level –4 goal, club chukkers, stick and ball, or high goal–we
look forward to seeing you all on the fields, in the Tiki Bar, and for lunch
with a spectacular view and great polo on Sundays. Come for a tournament, a
