The Polo Report

In a polo game during the first 12-goal tournament of the 2010 season at Santa Barbara Polo Club, it was Grandpa Walker teaching the boys about Polo. Dan Walker, a very fit Grandpa of 55 +, gave us a lesson today as Long Beach came out a winner by a last second goal by Mr. Walker. He is the Son of Ken Walker, who just gave up his reins at 80+ years of age. Back to the polo game … it was Long Beach minus “the Lawman,” who suffered a broken collar bone early in the game. Due to a lack of subs available, their team had to replace a 4-goal player with young Wiley Uretz a 0 goal player and he might be 1 now, not sure. On unfamiliar horses, playing against a tough Antelope Squad sporting a couple of Gracidas along with Mr. Palmer and Trotz, the opposition should have disappeared with a runaway win, but Mr. Walker, his son Matt and Justin Klentner decided it was just not going to happen. They hung on to a early lead until the 5th chukker when Antelope caught up. The end seemed near but no not yet … Dan Walker got on a mare, who is his age in horse years. Her name is Beauty, a 16 year-old mare who has been proven throughout the years and they Long Beach came back to the field fighting their way to a tie. Then, with the clock under 25, Danny Walker grabbed a miscue and made a couple quick turns losing his opponents and fired in the winning goal. Long Beach is more than likely headed to the finals. I suppose they will look for a four-goal player to sub on Mother’s Day. Or maybe not with Danny Walker on the team!
See ya and HAVE A VERY HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
