Great crowd at the first day of polo

The SBPRC season got off to a great start with two games on Sunday, May 2, played in front of hundreds of hotel concierges, bar and restaurant managers, and other hospitality workers from the Santa Barbara area. Of course, the local polo faithful were out in force enjoying the beautiful day and polo match as well.

In an effort to promote polo to the community, invitations were sent out to hundreds of hotel concierges, bar and restaurant hosts, and other people in the hospitality industry who get asked “What is fun to do around here?” Judging by the enthusiastic response, Sunday Polo! A polo player meet and greet was followed by two polo matches and the half time divot stomp at the 3pm game was a hit.

In the 1pm game, Mr. Cecils played Western Badge and Trophy. Western Badge and Trophy had great chemistry and ran away with the game, winning 11-4. High scorers were Bowen Farrell with 6 goals and Wes Ru with 3 goals.

Next up was 12 goal exhibition match between Geoff Palmer’s Antelope team and the Walker’s Long Beach. In a tightly contested match, Antelope would eventually emerge the victor, led by 5 goal from Julio Gracida. Danny Walker put up 5 goals for Long Beach, but the balanced scoring of Antelope proved to be the difference, and Antelope put the match away 11-8.
