SARATOGA TAKES SARATOGA POLO OPENER
On the opening match of Saratoga Polo’s 110th anniversary, it was the Saratoga team that took the winning honors, besting Gene’s Cleaning/Bloomfield to the tune of 11-6.
Saratoga received two goals before the match on handicap, but it turned out they didn’t need it and got to work quickly. 13-year old phenom Matt Coppolla scored the first goal of the match and never looked back, leading all scorers with 5 markers. Andy Lott added another for the victors and Marcelo Castro had 2 more.
Dave Peters got Gene’s Cleaning/Bloomfield going with a goal in the second. The husband/wife team of Tab and Will Orthwein added another 3 in the middle chukkers to keep things close. Mostly on defense at the number 4 position, Gene Gass was able to get up and score twice for the runners-up.
The next match at Saratoga Polo takes place on Sunday, June 22nd at 5:30pm. For more information about Saratoga Polo, call 518-584-8108 or visit saratogapolo.com.
