The Greenwich Polo Club season ended on a special note as the famed Britsh luxury company Asprey company unveiled its line of polo tack at a high goal polo match. The match, fittingly, was won by the Asprey team, 13-8 over Airstream.

First to score in the match was Guillermo Aguermo of Asprey as he received a pass off the opening throw-in and fired the ball straight in with only 20 seconds elapsed.

A longtime face at the Greenwich club, Peter Orthwein, then scored on a tough angle to make it 2-0. Orthwein was to quickly follow it with another goal late in the first chukker.

In the second chukker Mariano Aguerre, one of a hand full of players to hold the top rating of 10-goals scored on a roller. Apparently Airstream thought the ball was not going to make it across the goal line, as no one went to defend it, and to their chagrin, it did, and gave Asprey a 4-0 lead.

Midway through the chukker, with the score 5-0, Airstream broke the shut out, as Tomas Gracia del Rio, was all alone, and put it between the goal posts. Arstream’s hopes of mounting a rally were short lived as Aguerre assisted Ortwhein on a goal.
Still Airstream refused to fold, and scored two goals, the second coming off the stick of another Greenwich mainstay, Nick Manifold. The momenteum swung again and Aspary took control in the third chukker. Airstream lost possession of the ball and Aguero grabbed it, and scored, to give his team an 8-5 advantage. With only 17 seconds left until half-time, Peter Brant scored from close in, and Asprey was up 9-5.

The loudest cheers of the day came with 5:15 left to play in the fourth chukker when Ortwhein hit in a hard shot, off an assist from Peter Brant. This goal gave Asprey a commanding 10-5 lead.
During the post match award ceremony announcer John Cole asked the crowd who their favorite was for Most Valuable Player (MVP). The crowd favorite proved to be the man who was selected, Orthwein. “Peter you’re taking home all the prizes today,” said Cole. For his fleet Flora, whom he played in the fifth chukker was named Best Playing Pony. Flora is an eight year old Argentine mare.

Peter Brant then was presented with a bottle of champagne and sent everyone on the platform scrambling as he liberally sprayed it all around.

Before the match Manifiold and club public relations director Alison Kelley, herself a player, modeled the Asprey line. Following the match the line of items was on display at a party under the member’s tent. “Our company relates to the polo lifestyle,” said Howard Hyde, director of marketing for Asprey
