Four Teams took part in our 2006 Graduation Tournament to celebrate the graduation of seven new students. Those students are:
Guy Merison
Oliver Merison
Neil Goldman
Oakleigh Thorne
Abby Vietor
Alan Topai
Connor Pardell
Neil Goldman was not able to participate in our final game as he was just recently married and on his Honeymoon. Six of our 16 players were under the age of 16 and all of them did fantastic.
Chukker One Langlois III & Co. defeated Mashomack Mustangs 2-1
The first chukker match faced off the Mashomack Mustangs and Langlois III & Co, This may have been the battle of the day as both teams were showcasing players with tournament experience. Each team also had an experienced player to help direct the play…but they were not allowed to score.
Don Langlois had the wonderful experience of playing with both his sons, while the husband/wife duo of Parker Gentry and Oakleigh were on the opposite side of the throw-in along with Tatin Zubiaurre. The fourth players of the two teams were the father/son duo of Guy & Oliver Merison facing off against each other. A family torn apart by the quest for victory.
Chukker Two Pine Plains Pintos defeated Stanfordville Legal 2-0
Father-Daughter twosome Chris & Chloe Green joined up with David Merena and returning junior player, Lisa..from Kris Bowman’s school a few years back. This was Chloe’s first match ever. Stanfordville played well…but couldnt stop Connor Pardell as Connor had two great tallies. Connor was joined by fellow graduates, Abby Vietor and Alan Topai, all under the watchful eye of Felix Martinez.
Chukker Three-Consolation The Mashomack Mustangs defeated Stanfordville Legal 3-1
Parker Gentry and Oakleigh proved that a husband and a wife can play a sport together and still remain friends as their combined effort accounted for all three scores.
Chukker Four-Finals Langlois III & Co defeated the Pine Plain Pintos 2-0
Brothers Alex & Maxi Langlois each contributed a goal to their team’s victory and were able to hold the Pintos scoreless in the final chukker of play. Guy Merison pulled off a couple of great back shots in his team’s defensive effort.
Club President Duke Buchan was on hand to present the Graduates their “Polo Diplomas”.
Alex Langlois & Parker Gentry Thorne shared high scoring honors with 3 goals each. All the teams played each other tough and the new recruits did a fantastic job in this tether cutting ceremony. They rode with our motto….Field Awareness…and did a great job with being in position and displaying a fairly sound comprehension of the game formats and rules that have been presented to them over the summer. It was my privilege to work with the group. I would like to thank Tatin Zubiaurre & Felix Martinez who each coached the students throughout the summer. I would also like to thank Chris Green, David Merena, and Don Langlois for all of their very able assistance and support. We all very much enjoyed the spirit, humor, and camaraderie that developed over the summer. Great Fun.

Officer’s Cup Consolation Finals at 1pm
Buena Vista vs Supersized Titans
BV’s Don Langlois, Woody Keesee, Parker Gentry Thorne, Oakleigh Thorne, and Tatin Zubiaurre face off against the Supersized Titan foursome of Bruce Colley, Michael Levin, Sam Ramirez, and Felix Martinez. The ST’s may have a tad more balance, but BV has Tatin Zubiaurre…so this game will certainly be a battle. Now Im sure Tatin will say that he will be going easy and will just want to have some fun….and if you believe that, I have some wetlands available for immediate development. This is Tatin’s last showing before he heads back to Argentina on Friday.
USPA Officer’s Cup Finals at 4pm
Longfield Farm vs Smithfield Farm (oh….ohhhhh.)
Both undefeated in preliminaries…and one of these two teams will remain undefeated after tomorrow’s final. The last time these two rivals met was in Saratoga…and Longfield scored a sound victory in the finals. However…on Mashomack turf, Smithfield is the lion that roared as they have taken both of the previous higher goal 2006 USPA tournaments here, The Governor’s Cup and the Eddie Moore.
So this tournament would be the “Triple Crown” opportunity for Smithfield. last year, Longfield took two of the legs of our “Triple Crown”, winning the 2005 Eddie Moore and Officer’s Cup…Smithfield won the 2005 Governor’s Cup. So come see whether Duke and his boys get a piece of this year’s pie, or whether John Klopp and Fuad Malik gallop off with all the goods for 2006.
Whatever the case, one of these two squads will get bragging rights at all the upcoming Holiday parties, before they meet again, as this is our last USPA outing of the season.
