OSWEGO ROTARY HOSTS CHARITY EVENT
AT ARRANMORE POLO FARM

By Karen Martino

The Rotary Club of Oswego hosted its fourth annual Chukkers for Charity at John Greene’s Arranmore Polo Farm in Oswego, Illinois on Saturday, September 9.

The event featured a 16-goal polo match, tailgating contest, musical entertainment by “The Plaids,” dancing to the Gold Coast Orchestra, an auction and dinner provided by Outback Steakhouse.

The charity match pitted Macom (the Arranmore team) against Villa del Lago, with Macom coming on strong in the sixth chukker for an 8-7 victory. Macom’s Greene started the scoring, followed by a goal by seven-goaler Marcelo Frayssinet. Jim Zenni’s accurate shooting put Villa del Lago on the scoreboard for a 2-2 tie at the end of the first chukker (Villa del Lago received one goal on handicap).

Villa del Lago’s Mariano Obregon Jr. and Vale Aguilar scored in the second and third chukkers, keeping Macon scoreless, to go up 4-2. Both teams failed to find the mark in the fourth period.

The game heated up early in the fifth chukker, with Frayssinet scoring on a beautiful pass from Carlucho Arellano, and Greene carrying the ball the length of the field on a breakaway to tie the score at 4-all. Miguel Gutierrez’s neckshot from 30 yards out late in the period put Villa del Lago up by one.

Early in the sixth chukker, Macom’s Tod Rackley tied the score at 5-5, but two back-to-back goals by Aguilar again gave Villa del Lago the lead. Macon was not to be stopped, however, with Frayssinet and Arellano each finding the mark to tie it up 7-7. With less than a minute left in the chukker, Greene found an opening and carried the ball to goal for the victory.

Trophies were presented by Coleen Lehman of Macom Corp., who also threw in the ball.
