There is a thing called cost, and for medium-goal polo I do not think you can go wrong in the West for the winter season.
WHY: It cost much less and there are many other things to do such as snow skiing , golf, tennis, hiking and other outdoor recreation. You can even go surfing on the coast or Snowboarding just a short drive from the desert polo scene. You can see snow, but you will never have to touch it … if you don’t want to. Best of all it just does not rain much at all.
Here are a few comparisons between the two big polo clubs from the East and West:
One month cost per player and club cost + stabling and feed.
EAST
Player – Green Fees $4,000.00 + Ambulance and Umpire Fees and some other unknown club fees aprox. $8,000.00 ea.
Stalls – with 8 per Player approx. 500 per. mo. $4,000.00 monthly total
Feed – 50 to 60 % more per horse $20 a day if do good shopping X 8 X 30 = $4,800.00
Sunday Polo – No chance of being in the main game and usually you only play 1 tournament game a week if high-goal is on
FOR A TEAM 1 MONTH Green Fees and Club fees only + 32 Stalls (( No Feed or Pro cost)) approx. $48,000.00
Usually 1 game a week + practice
WEST
Player – Includes all fees … all combined Green Fees, Ambulance,Umpire and Club Entry … $2,000.00
Stabling 1 month $130ea X 8 with Tack room $1,040.00
Feed approx $12.00 per horse 12 x 8 x 30 $2,880.00
Sunday Game – a good chance to draw main game every week
FOR A TEAM 1 MONTH Green fees and all club fees, 32 stalls 4 tackrooms (( no Feed or Pro cost)) $12,160.00
2 tournament games a week + 1 practice on Club fields.
