Limited number of quality horses on offer at event scheduled for May 10, 2008 at New Bridge Polo and Country Club

Aiken, SC – Quality not quantity will be the catchword for the Aiken Spring Select Polo Pony Sale scheduled for May 10 at New Bridge Polo and Country Club and organized by Charlie Herrick of Banks Mill Feed.

“We are in the process of evaluating potential horses for the sale,” said Herrick who has run the successful Annual Fall Polo Pony Sale in Aiken for the past four years. “We are limiting numbers and will take no more than 60 and likely closer to 30 quality horses for the event.”

Differing from past sales in Aiken, this year’s Spring Select Sale will take place in the evening at the new venue of New Bridge Polo and Country Club. Prior to acceptance as entries all horses will be independently reviewed by agents acting for the Aiken Spring Select Sale. Buyers can review background reports on each entry in the Sale. Write ups will reflect a significant knowledge of the horse’s breeding, training, experience and overall attributes for polo. A veterinarian report submitted by the seller will also be available.

According to Sale organizers the word ‘select’ does not necessarily mean the horses will be valued at the top of the polo ‘price range’. The objective is to present good, solid, proven polo ponies that have ‘qualified’ to be in the sale and are highly marketable to professional and amateur players.

New Bridge Polo and Country Club provides a premier venue for the Spring Select Sale and its pristine polo fields will be used for horse tryouts. Horses entered in the sale will be announced in early April. Buyers will then have the chance to research horses, as well as see them in action on the polo field prior to their auction at the Aiken Spring Select Sale.

In addition the sale horses will be featured in an exhibition game to benefit the Hitchcock Woods Foundation on the Saturday afternoon before the evening sale. While the Aiken Spring Select Sale is expected to be a welcome addition to the upcoming polo season, the Annual Fall Polo Pony Sale will continue as a highlight of the fall, scheduled for Friday October 3 and Saturday October 4, 2008.

“The Spring Sale has been timed to fall between the end of the main Florida polo schedule – culminating in the US Open Polo Championship – and the start of summer polo,” said Herrick. “Horses will be coming off a high profile season and we hope players will visit Aiken if they are not already playing here, to take advantage of what the sale has to offer. There will be plenty of time to try horses and good fields on which to do so. There will also be an opportunity to evaluate horses based on reliable background research provided on every entry in the sale.”
