In a game that wasn’t as close as the score might indicate, El Remanso (George Hanbury, Charlie Hanbury, Pelon Stirling and Ollie Cudmore) had their way with La Indiana (Michael Bickford, James Beim, John Paul Clarkin and James Harper) Monday afternoon, leading by as many as eight goals on their way to the 12-7 victory in the 2015 Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup for the British Open at Cowdray Park Polo Club.
It was a fairly competitive opening chukker as both teams felt one another out, ending with El Remanso on top, 3-2.
Two second chukker goals by El Remanso went unanswered, 5-2, and by the end of the first half it was El Remanso in the lead by four goals, 7-3.
Shutout defense in the fourth period were complimented by three El Remanso goals. The lead stood at seven goals, 10-3, with two chukkers left to play.
The two teams traded goals in the fifth, with El Remanso maintaining the seven goals lead, 11-4, going into the final chukker of play.
La Indiana rallied for three sixth chukker goals to a single score for El Remanso, but it was far from enough. El Remanso registered their second straight win, 12-7
The loss was La Indiana’s second in two outings and came as a particularly disappointing performance since they had pressed the powerful King Power Foxes into sudden-death overtime before losing, 11-10.
