Sunday is the finals of the USPA Intercircuit in Santa Barbara. Its round 3 for these two teams as they have been in 3 of the 4 finals here and its Nicoma 2 & 0 over Long Beach so its the last chance for Long Beach to do it as Chad Lande, taking over for Pop, has done very well. He has them on a roll as they roll into this one without a minus. They have won their 3 games and Joel Ladin leads the charge with Federico Von Wernich doing the big bomb to him and Chad. They look to go to 3 and 0, but I think Matt Walker has other ideas as he continues to hunt a title for this season. In the consolation its Wild Bill and Corleone/Klentner leading the charge vs Gehache and Jeep Holden.
Next week will be arrival time for some of the big guns headed to town as a beat up high-goal season starts in Santa Barbara waylaid by injuries to 5 of their Patrons. This has nearly buried the High-Goal but Memo Gracida and Tom Barrack are preping with Julio over in St. Tropez while Mr. Palmer watches from his cabin in the Alps with a bad hip probably with partner in cructhes. The Governor Pat Nesbitt is out with a bad knee and I would not be surprised to hear Big Mike Hakan as in Duende is also using the wooden legs over there. No word of the Carpet Man (Ben Solemani) who still owns his horses I hear. The only criple at home in Santa Barbara is Daddy Danny Walker, who is coaching Matt with his left hand only.
Down South in party land (San Diego Polo Club) its a rubber game as Gypsy/Mano-Mano already have the belt, but must complete the trip vs. Southwind Custom Homes. Southwind is out of the running, but would love a nice ending before they head to the high-country of Aspen. The finals of the 4-goal will not be set until late Sat. There are a couple of big battles come noon on Sat.
Over across the pond in England its the Warkshire Cup and I have no info on that at this time.
Some local news . . . there is a big star coming to San Diego and his name is David (Pelon) Stirling. He is already Champion of the U.S. Gold Cup, the U.S. Open and the U.K. Queens Cup which are 3 of the top 4 tournaments played this year around the planet. He joins The Bones (Ron Bonaguidi) and Hanalei Bay in the Spreckles Cup in Sept.
On to the East coast its the Mig and the Rocket (Miguel Torres, Jr. and brother Santi Tores) trying for the title in Greenwich, CT as they play for White Birch. Their Dad Miguel Torres, Sr., who is fighting the Big C (cancer) seems to be in good spirits last week when I saw him.
Petaluma (Cerro Pampa PC) is up and running and their will be action there as those boys are nothing but wild on and off the pitch you might say.
So head to polo where its very near to you.
NOTICE : SAN DIEGO IS LIMITING their SPRECKLES CUP to 6 teams in the 6 Goal & 14 Goal. The 6-Goal may already be full and there are already 5 teams in the 14-Goal, so time is running out if you want to put in a team. It is one of the best polo tournaments in the West. FINAL DAY IS JULY 15,2007 AND YOU NEED A TEAM NOT A NAME.
