May 1, 2011: Richard Prather joins Surya as Club Manager and Polo School Instructor.
I am pleased to announce that Richard Prather will be joining Surya Polo Club as club manager and polo school instructor for the 2011 polo season.
Richard was introduced to polo through the “Work to Ride” program created in 1994 and run by Lezlie Hiner in Pennsylvania. Work to Ride provides disadvantaged urban youth from Philadelphia with constructive activities centered around horsemanship/polo. Richard was a member of the first African American polo team in our nation’s history and has been featured in Sports Illustrated and HBO’s series “Real Sports”. Most recently Richard was featured in the CBS evening news with Katie Couric and Good Day LA. Richard is graduating with a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice and Spanish from New Mexico State University. Richard has been a mentor and coach to the current Work to Ride team which won the 2011 Interscholastic Championships. Please join me in welcoming Richard to our club!
