The Polo Report

No matter what you were doing or what you do there was a finals. We had the Oscars finals for the movie World.  We had Nascar in Phoenix and we had The World Cup in Golf  … more on that later.  There were several conference finals in Basketball and best of all we had a mess of finals in Polo from 4-goal to 26-Goal and even a Women’s Final.

Lets start from the top down. In Palm Beach it was Colorado versus Venezuela. As bad luck would have it Big Bob J. and Valiente came out in second place as the Owls of Lechuza beat the second Rocky Mountain team this week as they stopped the Hawks of Calgary  in the Semis. It was a close game. The California Desert crowd can be proud as Valiente was playing in the finals of the desert 12-goal just 2 years ago this week in Indio, CA.  They have made quite a move! Zacara smoked Crab Orchard in the Consolation finals and they will meet again soon in the Gold Cup, as the defending Champs C.O. seem a little slow out of the box so far.

Back in the Desert it was Smokin’ Joe and Reg and the other Rocky Mountain Lady Lauren Beal Sherry putting the Antelope out to pasture in the finals at EDPC.  It seems that Rocky Mountain air is sending a lot of Polo Players to the finals including Big Bob J., Jenny Lutrell and Lauren Beal Sherry, who are all from the Rockies and all in the finals lately.

I was watching the World Golf finals today and the final 4 had 3 people who had very similar faces with Polo people. Bubba Watson reminded me a lot of Matias Magrini, not as heavy but very similar.  Mariano Fassetta could be a match for Matin Kaymer the German # 1 player in the World ,  just a little taller.  And best of all was compare Chris Maloney to Matt Kustner with their hats on. And guess what?  Matt’s nick name is CRICKET,  it was amazing,  but none of them were first.   It belonged to an English man and he did not look like Gordon R.

A bit of a scare for many Polo fans today as Alex Hagen III had a monstrous fall in the 3rd chukkar with a horse on top of him in the finals at Empire Polo Club, but was said he is expected to be ok and coming back for Champagne as he missed the last 2 chukkars on a trip to ER.  He was replaced by Ernesto Bautista.  Empire Team with big stick Charlie Peterson defeated Cam Clark Ford in the finals by 1.  So after a rough month of Polo and weather, February comes to a close.  Now we can get ready for MARCH MADNESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Oh and by the way a team from Manila,  I was told , won the Women”s tournament at the  DEBI $$ Conant Lady’s at Empire POLO.  They defeated Cam Clark Ford as well.  I will get info to you as soon as I can.

See ya.
