Some old-timers were just a little bit too tough today as action started in the USPA America’s Cup at Santa Barbara Polo Club. Three games were played today. In the 11 am it was ERG/Grant’s Farm vs. Audi and a new view as (9 goal some places and 10 goal other places) Gonzalito Pieres hit the greens and was quite spectacular. It was, however, not enough as Scott Woods and Andy Busch were just enough to help Paco de Narvaez and Jeff Blake slide by them, the Audi team that is. It was a close one at the end after a 4 goal lead to start the 6th. It was Sunny Hale and Gonzalito doing their best to ruin Scott Woods’ premiere in Santa Barbara high- goal, but they came up 1 short.

In the 1 p.m. game it was a legend, as in Memo Gracida, and his Piocho Ranch Patron Tom Barrack stuffing a 16-goal side with 2 seniors on it. Joel Baker and Ruben Gracida did not quit until the last whistle blew.

In the 3 p.m it was not as old, but senior polo just the same, as Mike Azzaro and Long Beach/Klentner Ranch were just too much for young guns “Nick the Stick” Roldan and a Ruki Bailieu to overcome even with the help of super photo man Steve Wayda at their side without his Playgirl. Maybe should have brought one to polo so the young guns could have shined.

So sunday is like this:

11 a.m. Long Beach vs. Piocho Ranch

1 p.m. Gechache vs. GF/ERG

3 p.m. Audi vs. Zacara

Will get a player rundown later as Piocho did not have Julio Gracida and Zacara is missing the Main Man Lyndon Lee all said to available on Sunday.

See ya there.
