Bash Kazi’s KIG team won the Emma Challenge Cup in 2015 with a 6-5 victory over Flexjet.
Five teams will take to the fields this week as the Aspen Valley Polo Club moves into their fifth week of tournament play.
Following a Thursday morning practice on the Rose Spur polo fields, Flexjet (Melissa/Marc Ganzi, Tony Calle, Nic Roldan and Alex Gooding) will face Aspen Valley (Ale Poma, Grant Ganzi, Julio Novillo Astrada and Juancito Bollini) at Sopris Mt. Ranch in an 11am game on Friday.
A 3pm round-robin at Jeff Hildebrand’s High Mesa Ranch field will round out the day with Los Amigos (Alejandra Foster, Carlitos Gracida, Lucas Lalor and Stewart Armstrong), Tonkawa (Jeff Hildebrand, Teo Calle, Tincho Merlos and Jimmy Seward) and La Karina (Paul Foster, Brian Boyd, Sebastian Merlos and Gabriel Gracida) battling one another for a playoff spot.
Although the captain of last year’s defending championship KIG team, Bash Kazi, won’t be present, Marc Ganzi, Nic Roldan (both competing with Flexjet this year) and Carlitos Gracida (with Los Amigos) will be competing.
La Karina will be looking for their second consecutive trophy win, but will be facing some stiff competition.
Friday’s winners will compete in the Emma Challenge Cup final on Sunday at 1pm. The Subsidiary Final will take place at 11am.
