It was a wild weekend at the San Diego Polo Club and nobody will disagree. The weather was true Fall air and very comfortable. The fields played well and the parties were amazing. And the polo . . . well it was tournament polo and nobody knows how it will play out. Two weeks ago today Adeptus and Madison Square were wearing their championship rings and today they are wondering about next year. Adeptus who won the last finals in the 6-Goal League by 8 goals lost to the team they beat in the last finals. They got spanked by Jofie (Joseph Stuart) and the boys today. The Wolf Man (Ashton Wolf) and Casa Blanca shut the back door by clobbering Princeps/CNS in a game that saw Lochesh take a bad fall and get a ride in the meat wagon to Scripps Hospital. Lochesh is a Brain surgeon and he was talking and demanding they let him go. They took him on the board back to Scripps . Have not heard anymore on his status, but he may have broken a collarbone as well I was told.
While Adeptus is out of the running in the 6-goal, Madison Square needs V.P. Cheny to get them to the finals of the 12-14 Goal. The way I see it they have 1 game to go as all teams do, but chances are less than slim. Again, nobody knows or can predict how it will play out.
Here is the way it went today…
At 9:30 a.m. it was Casa Blanca going to 2 and 2 after blasting Princeps. Also at 9:30 it was Marcus & Millichap going to 4 and 0 as they smoked Adeptus, who now are 2 and 2. Then in a big move Mrs. Ellie (Ellen Greenhill) fired up Monte Verde and cooked a O.T. goal and beat the unbeaten but still in the semis OC Polo. Rick Paicius was cruising today and saving his Latin day for Robin. They are getting ready for next week. At 1:30 it was Kelly Maloney and her Ohana Squad doing what they all did to Friendly Surf, rode them hard and sent them to 0 and 4. So the 6-goal semis looks like this (I think).
M and M 4 – 0 + 11 (1st) best record
Monteverde 3 – 1 + 5 2nd
OC POLO 3 – 1 + 4 3rd
Casa Blanca 2 – 2 + 4 4th
Adeptus 2 – 2 + 3
Ohana 2 – 2 – 2
Friendly/SurfER 0 – 4 – 8
CNS/Princeps 0 – 4 – 17
If this is right, Monte Verde vs. OC Polo again in the Semis and
M and M vs. Casa Blanca.
In the 14-Goal it was 2 games at 11 am. It was Wild Bill Freeman and the South Wind of Corleone giving Tri Tech and Silent Chris Maloney a real hard time. They just lost after being tied or ahead ever other chukker, but its the 6th chukker that counts. It was 1 off as Tritech was 7 and Corleone/Southwind 6. Next door it was Hanalei Bay, who have been beaten by Madison Square twice already this Fall, tied the first chukkar and then went up by 2 in the second and 4 more in the third for a 6 goal lead at 1/2 time. At one point in the 4th chukker Hanalei was 7 goals ahead, but Madison Square won the rest of the chukkers, just none by 4 goals, which is what they needed.
Then in the featured game of the day at 3:00 PM, with a huge following of SCRIPPS OF ENCINITAS fans, it was not a close game. Suzanne Figi of Gypsy got hosed by Hanalei Bay on some officiating on Friday. She took no chances today and did a high goal spanking of Sir Sean Keys and Hidden Creek, who were in hiding today.
So these are the standings in round robin format. The ties are broken by who beat who only after win/loss and net goals between the teams tied. So if three teams are tied its really going to be fun and it could be four teams tied.
WITH 1 GAME TO GO
Gypsy 2 and 2 + 10 but 7 of those may not count
Hidden Creek 1 and 3 there out
Hanalei Bay 3 and 1 + 6 but 5 of those may not count
Madison Square 2 and 2 – 1 but could be minus 5 if some games do not count
Tri Tech 3 and 1 + 5 but could be + 2
Corleone/SouthWind 1 and 3 there out
So get ready to rumble Friday. There is polo all day and a very big party Friday night under the big tent. See ya there.
Around the World of Polo there weren’t any big games. In Argentina it is raining, in Aiken, SC it was Kris Kampsen continuing a banner year. He was MVP in the ESPN Cup which is the third leg of the Triple Crown. They defeated New Bridge. It will be on the TV sometime in Oct. We will try and keep you posted with dates and times when it will air. The only news from Houston is that Jeff Blake dislocated his shoulder. In Santa Barbara it is Chadmar at 1 and 1, Gehache at 1 and 1, Western Badge 1 and 1 and Klentner/Piocho at 0 and 2. Something is not right there. Cannot be three winds and 5 losses. Someone must be 2 and 0. I will check on that detail. See ya.
