A formal challenge for the Westchester Cup has been sent from the offices of the chairman of the United States Polo Association to the Hurlingham Polo Association to confirm conditions for the February 21, 2009 event, which is scheduled to be played at International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Organized by the Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame to commemorate the 100th anniversary of America’s first Westchester Cup victory in 1909, this event will feature some of the top polo players from England and the United States in a single match. Team rosters have been proposed but have not yet been made official.
First played for in 1886, for five decades the Westchester Cup was the premiere event in the polo world. The 2009 Westchester Cup will mark the first time since 1939 that the British have traveled to the United States to play for the 122 year-old trophy.
Tickets will soon be available through the IPC Box office. For further details and information, please contact Brenda Lynn at the Museum of Polo, (561) 969-7015.
