The Polo Report by Steve Crowder. It all started one day when a German Polo player named Bolko Kissling called to see if I wanted to go to Mexico. I said “no, but thank you.” Well a few days later an old friend named Miguel Parada Gomez blah blah as his name changes with locations and girlfriends, asked if I could find some Women for the first Ladies Tournament in Costa Careyes and I said I would look for some. Well he is not always quick to reply so the is the Patron of Costa Careyes called me. His name is Giorgio Brignone or JOJO. Its easy to guess why he is very organized and we had a good conversation . I gave him some names and he was off and running. the Ladies tournament was set and he called back and said “why don’t you come as well?” The Tournament was scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend and my wife and daughter agreed, so I took my family to Costa Careyes. JoJo had it organized before they agreed, which is something you never expect in the tropics or Mexico . . . instant organization. From here it became a Thanksgiving unknown to most people. I have succeeded in being in the greatest place on Earth and for polo at the same time.

Costa Careyes is having their first-ever Women’s tournament and I met many of them last night. The ladies polo players have traveled from New York, Monterey, Columbia, England and Mexico City. It should be a first as many have never played a real game before and this Club/Resort has never had a Ladies tournament before. I do not know if the horses have ever seen women before, but it should be fun. We shall let you know. It was like get on the plane and hit the sky and your are there in 3 hours from Southern California. The people are kind and friendly. We had a great Turkey Dinner in another Country set by the sea. We were able to enjoy the World around us. We listened to the girls explain their Polo careers and the manager named Chino from Peru put the teams together for the game on Friday. With a quick imagination of who had playing experience and who was not a veteran to polo. It worked as the horses were balanced amazingly well for so little knowledge of anyone’s playing skills. They were off and running to the first Ladies Cup in Costa Careyes and maybe Mexico as no one was sure on this. They had a small glitch when one girl was unable to attend which was a shame seemed a shame. Two Ladies from Monterey named Sophia and Sondra convinced my daughter Whitney to play. I thought this was going to be a bit silly as she last rode a horse about 2 years ago, but at 15 who cares. They went onto the fields on Friday and the match ended with the Pink Links edging the Blues by 1. A great amount of speed and ability was observed. One Lady from Tasco could ride like the wind and power the ball on all sides, even though she knew nothing of the rules. She was very hard to catch. W e may see her often in the future. Her name is Christina and she will be better on Saturday I am sure. We will let you know from the land of sea turtles and the magic of the tropics on Thanksgiving weekend in Costa Careyes. See ya.
