Tournament play continues at the Aspen Valley Polo Club with the 2016 Craig Sakin Memorial scheduled to begin on Friday, July 15th.   An 11am game between Casablanca (Lauren Sherry, Grant Ganzi, Julio Novillo Astrada and Juancito Bollini) and La Karina (Melissa Ganzi, Brian Boyd, Sebastian Merlos and Marc Ganzi) at Sopris Mt. Ranch.

The second tournament match of the day will field defending champion Travieso (Teo Calle, Tony Calle, Lucas Lalor and Carlitos Gracida) and Tonkawa (Jeff Hildebrand, Jimmy Seward, Justo Saavedra and Stewart Armstrong) on Tonkawa’s High Mesa Field.

Teo Calle played on last year’s winning Travieso team but it’s going to be a different picture this year. Although he will be joined by his son, Tony Calle, Travieso will be taking the field without American 8-goaler Nic Roldan.

On the other hand, La Karina, the team La Travieso beat in the final chukker of the tournament last year, has bulked up significantly, adding Argentine 9-goaler Sebastian Merlos to their roster.

Casablanca is the youth oriented entry that will rely on the leadership of veteran 8-goaler Julio Novillo Astrada while Jeff Hildebrand’s Tonkawa foursome boasts 6-goaler Justo Saavedra and 3-goalers Jimmy Seward and Stewart Armstrong.

The final of the Craig Sakin Memorial is set for Sunday with both time and location to be determined. Friday’s losing teams will compete in the subsidiary match.

The Aspen Valley Polo Club is located at 3275 County Road 100, Carbondale, CO. The public is welcome to watch polo in a relaxed atmosphere.  Admission and parking are free.  The club’s Polo Hotline is 970-710-1663.
