Friday looms as a big day or a short day as the first game could be the only game or the start of a big day. It is sort of like this. but with a twist . . . 2 & 0 ERG/Grant’s Farm Plays 1 & 1 Long Beach/Klentner Ranch. If ER/GF wins thats 3 and 0 and away we go. If Long Beach/Klentner R. win now we have 2 teams at 2 & 1. Next is 0 & 2 Audi vs 1 & 1 Zachara. So Zachara could be 2 & 1. Then you have 2 & 0 Piocho vs 0 & 2 Gehache. So they could be 2 & 1 but all this is if Long Beach/Klentner wins. If not its simple as Memo & Paco will be in the finals and it will be a very good game. Lets look at the teams just so you know who is in town.
AUDI
Melissa Ganzi – Patroness of a very strong Florida-based team. Melissa has and does play in FL every winter and travels somewhere ever year for summer polo.
Sunny Hale was the highest-rated Lady in Polo for many years and she is still rated 3-goals. Sunnyhas won everywhere. She also was the first Lady to win the U.S. Open and has won every big tournament in the U.S. I believe. She was born and raised in Southern California.
Juan Bolleni is a high goal player and has been for many years in the U.S. The first time I heard of him was with the famous Hector Barrentes and the mighty White Birch teams of the 80’s. He has been 8 goals and had a very good career in U.S. polo. Juan is as strong as a bull.
Gonzalo Pieres, Jr. is the young gun of polo. He has reached the highest handicap in polo and is short of 25 years. He is the son of the Gonzalo Pieres, who had the same type of fame as Adolfo Cambiaso has today. Gonzalo was simply the best in that era. Gonzalo Pieres, Jr. is bigger than Pop, but he seems quick and very strong at shooting at goal. He is a super star.
Gechache
Robertito Zedda is a local player in Santa Barbra. He was brought in years ago by Alfonso Giannico and has stayed here and played since the 90’s.
Joel Baker is not a junior, but he has this trophy on his wall several times probably as he has been here most of his polo life. Joel was at once 7 goals and won the U.S. Open when it was in San Antonio, Texas. Joel raises and makes his own horses as well.
Ruben Gracida is a longtime player from Santa Barbara and also has won this cup more than once. He is a resident of Florida, but from the very famous Gracida family of Mexico. Ruben was 8 goals for many years.
Mariano Uranga the youngster on this team also the highest rated player on this team. He is from Argentina and is the son of Polo’s greatest Ambassador to make it a sport for the world to see.
Round 2 is later with more teams as we meet the players.
