UAE Polo (Jose Araya, Jr., Lucas Monteverde, Pablo MacDonough and Santiago Stirling) made short work of an out-gunned HB Polo team (Ludovic Pailloncy, Cristian Laprida, Ignacio Toccalino and Sebastien Pailloncy) Saturday as they steamrolled the Pailloncy brothers and ran up a commanding 5-2 halftime lead.
Ten-goaler Pablo MacDonough and 9-goaler Lucas Monteverde made it look easy as they raced up and down the field much to the delight of the crowd and the consternation of the HB Polo players.
Five more second half goals by UAE were answered by a single goal from HB Polo as UAE recorded their second win of the 2015 Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup for the British Open at Cowdray Park Polo Club.
Apes Hill 8, Salkeld 6
In the final Gold Cup match of the day, Apes Hill (Ralph Richardson, Mark Tomlinson, Eduardo Novillo Astrada and Tom Morley) fought a defensive battle with Salkeld (Nick Clarke, Inaki Laprida, Joaquin Pittaluga and Luke Tomlinson), holding a 4-2 lead at the end of the first half.
Three consecutive fourth chukker goals had Apes Hill on top, 7-2 before Salkeld found its offense. Three goals from Salkeld had them knocking on the door, but it wasn’t to be as Apes Hill (2-0) rode off the field with the 8-6 victory, giving Salkeld (1-1) their first loss of the tournament.
Three Gold Cup games are on the schedule for Sunday with King Power Foxes (A. Srivaddhanaprabha, Hugo Lewis, Gonzalo Pieres and Facundo Pieres) facing Sifani (Hilali Noordeen, Max Charlton, Agustin Merlos and Malcolm Borwick) in an 11am game followed by a 3pm tilt between Zacara (Juan Martin Nero, Lyndon Lea, Rodrigo Andrade and Jack Hyde) and Talandracas (Edouard Carmignac, Polito Pieres, Sapo Caset and Zac Hagedoorn) at 3pm. A final 5pm contest between the 2014 defending British Open champion, Dubai (Rashid Albwardy, Tom Brodie, Diego Cavanagh and Adolfo Cambiaso) and Harald Link’s Thai Polo team (Harald Link, Matias Torres Zavaleta, Nic Roldan and Tomas Garcia del Rio)
