It took 8 chukkers, but it happenend at the “fun” polo club in San Diego where the 14-goal Spreckels got underway Friday at 11 a.m. with 3 big games. Its the start of 3 weeks of rock and roll polo where the surf meets the turf. On a beautiful Friday it was Tritech with Silent Chris Maloney putting some big moves on Bones (Ron Bonaguidi) and the boys and a fired-up Alvaro Tadeo. They set Hanalei Bay back and got a big win to get it all started. Then it was Pretty Lady Lisa Bosstick and the Black Machine of Madison Square teeing off on Sir Sean Keyes and his Creek Men (Hidden Creek). They felt like hiding for a while, but got the flood stopped. They came back some in the last 1/2 as Pretty Lady took a thumping from Sir Sean, but only after she scored 3 goals on him. So Madison Square gets a WIN. Then it was the initiation of Corleone/Southwind starting up the last game of the day. It was Ms. Figi seeming to hold them together, but slowly and surely it was Corleone/SW getting closer and closer and finally tied it up the game in the 5th. They went up by 1, but Gypsy came right back and at the end of 6th it was Wild Bill Freeman with a huge run down the south side and a big nearside. Bill almost won his first 14-goal game on his own, but it was wide and still tied. So into OT it went. It was more of the same and into the eight chukker as cool winds and darkness came from the Pacfic Corleone/SW put it to rest and to finish the day. Laura and Chris Maloney hosted a very special dinner at Rancho Valencia, so it was an awesome day in Del Mar at the San Diego Polo Club. Around the World it was Rain in Argentina, so no Polo. The ESPN Cup started in Aiken, SC with 2 games and the 8-goal in Santa Barbra gets to round 3 today. Houston is also wet as Humberto stopped by briefly.

See ya at polo.
