The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

Super horse “I’ll Have Another”was scratched from the Belmont making it 12 who have never finished the deal as in the Triple Crown.  We go to 35 years since Affirmed did it in 1978. Worst of all, he did not even run which has happened 3 times in a century.  This was the 144th Belmont Stakes. The lights have now gone out on the 2012 Triple Crown, but Polo in a way gets a bit of the glory. Mikee Matz, a solid Pro in the Polo world, is the son of Michael Matz, trainer of Union Rags, who made it quite a race.  It could have been a three horse finish if there would have been Another.

In the World of Polo it is going forward as Nacho Figueras put on a huge show in NY last week. I have heard that it was amazing as usual when Polo’s # 1 man is on board. He is the “Face of Polo” without a doubt.

In the Queens Cup it was time for the Quarter finals.  It was El Ramanso with Pelon Sterling out doing two of Englands best, James Biem and Luke Tomilson.   Younger brother Mark Tomilson and Edward Astrada heading to the Semis leading Aravali to a big win.  Ayala led by Superstar Gonzalo Pieres were just too much for Pablo and Richard Mille. Just one left and it has the Mastro Adolfo Cambiaso (AC) going against a pair of very tough men in the form of Nero and James Wirth.  I  just heard AC and Dubai are winners. They will play in semis Wed. so it will be :
EL RAMANSO vs DUBAI Pelon stirling vs Adolpho Cambiaso
ARAVALI vs AYALA Edguardo Astrad and Mark Tomilson vs Gonzalo Pieres and JP Clarkin

Out west where there is a bit of mystery about what is going to happen.  There is one thing that is for sure … The Colorado Cowgir,l Jenny Luttrel is winning a lot.  She is, however, coming out like Bob Bafferet … runnerup in 3 twelve goals, but she did win the first one and has been to every finals. Today at the Santa Barbara Polo Club she takes on Luchesse and Mansour meets Leigh Brecheen’s Film Finance in the feature game. The new General Manager seems to be doing well as People are smiling again around SBPC.

DO NOT FORGET TODAY IS OPENING DAY IN POLO’S # 1 PARTY PLACE WHERE THE SURF MEETS THE TURF SAN DIEGO POLO CLUB Be there you will have a very good time.
