Polo is on the upswing in the U.S. thanks to programs established by the U.S. Polo Association (USPA), polo’s national governing body, to train homegrown talent while also providing opportunities for new players and fans to get involved in the sport.  The USPA offers a host of training and learning opportunities through member clubs across the country, Regional Polo Centers, a flourishing Interscholastic/Intercollegiate polo program and the organization’s premier Team USPA development program.

“Polo is growing exponentially and the St. Regis International Cup serves as a platform to promote the sport on both a national and international level,” said Peter Rizzo, CEO of the U.S. Polo Association. “We look forward to showcasing our American athletes in what should prove to be a highly competitive matchup.”

St. Regis has been involved in polo since the early 20thcentury when high-profile events attracted numerous spectators to the polo grounds on Governors Island in New York.  Among those attendees were the hotel’s founding family, the Astors, who hosted numerous parties and activities surrounding the matches.  Since then, St. Regis has become a great supporter of international polo, hosting signature events in the U.S., U.K., and across the world.
