Saturday July 20, 2013 a one-day NYTS tournament was held at the San Diego Polo Club. Russ Sheldon was very generous to trailer over 22 horses from Poway, which made it possible to mount 2 flights, “A” and “B”. Molly Burch-Agee sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem while sitting on her horse prior to the first match.

The “A” flight was a very talented group of young players that included: Team SWAG, Mia Bray (-1), Austin Finch (0), Colton Bancroft (0), Jessica Wadleigh (B), competing against Tristan Smyth (B), Savannah Broderick (A), Molly Burch-Agee (B) and Kolbie McCoy (B) on the Poway All-Stars team.  Team SWAG defeated Team Poway All-Stars 10-4. Umpires were Graham Bray and Gaston VonWernick and commented that they didn’t really see much that needed to be called. “These kids really know the rules, there were hardly any fouls”, commented San Diego polo manager and umpire, Graham Bray.

The “B” Flight teams consisted of T-Rex Team: Rexy Vicardo, Ali Mobtaker, Emma Hobscheid, Austin Finch competing against Poway Paller Team:Drew Hobscheid, Theo Anastos, Colton Bancroft and Kolbie McCoy. This was also a very competitive match with team T-Rex walking away as the winner.

Although the decision as to who would make the NYTS Zone 1, San Diego All-Star team was a difficult one, the following individuals were selected: Colton Bancroft (0), Tristan Smyth (B), Savannah Broderick (A) and Austin Finch (0).

Overall it was an exceptional day. All junior players played hard and were excellent riders, scored equal on sportsmanship, and had a great time on and off the field. The San Diego Polo Club hosted a Hot Dog cook out afterwards, complete with cake decorated in a horse theme.
