The Polo Community Is Hanging Out On Facebook!
An article by PoloZONE.com

FaceBook_64x64It seems that the polo community is very Internet-savvy.  Facebook is filled with polo players and fans. The gypsy-like lifestyle of the polo world makes keeping in touch with friends and family a challenge.  Facebook has become the central meeting spot for polo friends around the globe.

Polo Clubs are just starting to understand how to use the social networks to communicate with members, to distribute news and to promote their services.  Some clubs have someone on staff who is familiar with the new technology and who can help them get up to speed quickly.  Other clubs are still behind the 8-ball wondering what all this new technology is all about.  Back in 1997 very few businesses had a Web site and today every business has one.  The social networking sites are the same.  Some businesses have facebook profiles, but in a matter of a few years every business will have one.

Why wait?  The social networking tools are free and the polo community is already there waiting for you (the clubs and businesses) to catch up with the technology.  If you don’t have someone on staff who can set-up a facebook page for you or if you don’t have the time to do it, PoloZONE.com can provide this service for you.

Facebook news gets out quickly and your fans/members get the news quickly because they log onto facebook frequently to check their mail and to communicate with their friends.  They don’t have to remember to log onto your club web site for news.  The news or information is pushed to them, right to their favorite social networking page . . . facebook.

Here are a few clubs I’ve seen on Facebook.  If you know of other polo clubs on Facebook please post a comment on this article or email lynn@polozone.com and I’ll add them to the list.

Search for polo clubs on facebook using the club name and become a fan.  Some clubs are set up as profiles (you can become their friend) and others as business pages or groups (you become a fan or group member).  I recommend that all clubs set up pages vs. profiles or groups.  On pages your fans can sign up without you having to approve them.  On both profile and business pages you can feed a blog or Twitter updates into the page to keep your members up-to-date without having to log into the facebook account to update your status or news.

Below is a list of Clubs I’ve seen facebook:

Santa Barbara PC
San Diego PC
The Villages PC
Black Diamond PC
Oakdale PC
California PC
OC Polo Club
